DENTAL VENEERS TO WIDEN YOUR SMILE
What is a dental veneer?
A dental veneer is a very thin shell of less than one millimeter (between 0.2 mm and 0.5 mm) thick, like a contact lens. It is a coating used by the dentist to cover the front surface of the tooth, which is the visible side when you smile. The rest of the tooth is untouched unless it is necessary to restore it first. This method of cosmetic dentistry is mainly used for the front teeth, especially for the incisors and possibly for the canines according to the width of your smile.
The use of this method in cosmetic dentistry began in Europe in the mid-2000 years, even though it already existed in the United States before. The thickness of porcelain veneers has greatly diminished since, as a result of the new and improved materials and modern techniques. The installation of dental veneers is growing in popularity in Europe.
Our dental laboratory uses the most modern technologies so dental veneers are more and more considered an alternative treatment on front teeth to white fillings, or to crowns, or even bleaching and orthodontics. In some cases, it is even the most affordable solution, as the price of our porcelain dental veneers is cheaper than that of Zirconia crown. Choose porcelain dental veneers in Hungary, in Debrecen, to return home with a new smile in just one day. Our ultramodern digital dental laboratory starts the preparation of your porcelain dental veneers as soon as the impression is taken, so our dentist can install them the following day already.
Composite resin veneers
Dental veneers can be made of a composite resin, the same material that is used for white fillings. The treatment is accomplished by the dentist in a single session since the veneers are made on the spot. The dentist first removes the adequate amount of tooth structure from the surface so the composite resin can be applied in a thin layer without bulkening the tooth, then the material is light cured and finished and polished. The cost of the composite resin material is relatively low, so the cost of the treatment is also lower than the cost of porcelain veneers. Another advantage of the composite resin is that it can be applied in one visit, not in two visits as in the case of porcelain veneers, unfortunately however the lifetime of the composite resin is limited. The way of usage can alter greatly its lifespan, but it rarely exceeds 4 - 5 years before signs of wear off start to show. They must then be replaced by another set of composite resin veneers or by choosing the long-lasting porcelain veneers. They do not offer the same aesthetics as porcelain veneers, they are less resistant than porcelain since the surface is more porous, so they tend to get stained easier, for example by food, drinks or some other exterior factor like medication.
Our experience shows that after the dentist explains the difference between the two types of veneers, our patients usually choose porcelain veneers. The porcelain dental veneers are made in the dental laboratory by technicians according to the impression they receive from the dentist. In our digital dental laboratory the veneers are prepared within a day, so our dentist will normally be giving you appointments for this two session treatment on two consecutive days. On the first visit the tooth needs to be prepared, in most cases at least a slight trimming of the front surface of the tooth is necessary and the impression is taken. On your second visit the dentist will install the porcelain veneers and bond them on the prepared surface of the tooth. Porcelain veneers are of course biocompatible. There is therefore no risk of allergic reaction. These are metal-free dental prostheses. Porcelain is a material compatible with living tissue, with optical and mechanical properties close to those of natural teeth. It is very resistant to food stains and does not change color at all over time. It has a lifespan expectancy of more than 20 years.
In comparison with the installation of a dental crown, during which a large part of the tooth must be removed, the placement of a porcelain veneer requires mostly only the trimming of the anterior surface of the tooth. As the tooth remains virtually intact, the dentist is not obliged to consider the root canal treatment of your tooth. Your tooth stays alive, which is a priority in all our dental procedures: we always accomplish all treatments in the least invasive way possible.
If the teeth do not require a large correction in shape or size, it isn't even necessary to trim them. In these cases the dentist places the new generation porcelain veneers, which are only 0.2 mm - 0.3 mm thick, directly on the surface of the tooth. A chemical treatment of the tooth surface however is necessary before the veneers are permanently bonded.
The installation of porcelain dental veneers is not considered to be painful. It is nevertheless usually done under local anesthesia to avoid any inconveniences most often due to the pressure applied during the bonding of the veneers.
If you wish to have porcelain dental veneers installed, you must take into consideration, before starting the treatment, that a part of the enamel of the tooth usually needs to be removed for the installation of porcelain dental veneers. This method is thus irreversible and you will always need veneers to protect these teeth.
When to get dental veneers?
Dental veneers are an effective smile enhancemnet solution for those who are looking for a nice wide smile. Porcelain dental veneers change the appearance of your teeth to get the smile you want.
Veneers mask many undesirable tooth imperfections at once:
- Colour defects, which need to be corrected in cases when the natural color of the tooth has changed, it has been stained by foods or drinks such as tea, coffee, sugared or acidic drinks, by tobacco even certain drugs can have such an effect. When a bleaching is no longer enough, porcelain dental veneers are a good choice.

Maintenance of dental veneers
The good news is that there are no special precautions to be taken apart from having good oral hygiene. You should brush your teeth at least twice a day, preferably 3 times, use dental floss every day and go to the dentist every 6 months for a dental check-up and ask for a descaling when necessary. The dentists should be informed beforehand in case of Bruxism, which is the grinding or the abnormal clenching of the teeth, so that they can advise you on the right solution in your case. The dentist may request the use of a night guard, which is a protective appliance generally worn during the night to prevent premature wear or damage to the dental veneers.
